## Description

At the end of September 2022, the traditional inpayment slips (ISR) for bank transfers
in Switzerland have disappeared. The replacement is the “QR bill” (https://www.einfach-
zahlen.ch/), which was introduced in July 2020.

In order to offer this cost-effective payment option with all its advantages in
the future, we have developed sqrip. sqrip for WooCommerce consists of a universal
API (http://api.sqrip.ch/) and a WordPress plugin, which connects seamlessly with
WooCommerce and comes up with various options. The plugin is “open source” (https://
github.com/netmex/sqrip-woocommerce) and can thus be adapted for other store systems.

#### Names and terms you may be looking for

The Swiss QR bill goes by many names: in German QR-Rechnung, QR-Einzahlungsschein
or simply Einzahlungsschein; in French QR-facture, bulletin de versement or code
QR; in Italian QR-fattura or polizza di versamento. sqrip produces this Swiss QR
Code payment part for all of them from the same WooCommerce order. It also covers
payment reconciliation (Kontoabgleich) — manually or automatically via EBICS and
camt.053 — as well as WPML, multi-store and multi-site setups, an integration with
PDF Invoices & Packing Slips, and multiple invoice installments.

#### Functionality

sqrip is listed as an additional payment method in WooCommerce and can be configured
there. For identification and billing purposes, but also for security aspects, the
plugin is connected to the sqrip account via an API key/token. The QR invoice is
created by the API, delivered and saved in the desired format in the media library.
From there, the file can be integrated in various places (e.g. as an insert in the
confirmation email) and reopened at any time. If the invoice has been changed, the
QR payment part can be updated with one click. The reference number is prominently
displayed with the order so that reconciliation is quickly possible.

#### Good to know

 * The invoice from WooCommerce is not touched. The QR invoice is a separate PDF
   document.
 * The normal IBAN or the new QR-IBAN can be used as the recipient account. With
   a QR-IBAN, payments can only be executed with the specification of a QR reference(
   number). This allows each individual deposit to be uniquely assigned to a customer/
   order. Automatic matching of payments received with orders is thus possible.
   This is the basis for further (partial) automation.
 * One sqrip account can be connected to multiple stores. Multiple API keys are
   possible.
 * Each API key should be replaced after a self-selected duration. Therefore, it
   is possible to define an expiration date. After this date, QR Invoice can no
   longer be offered without adjustments from the store owner. A new API key must
   be created and linked.

#### Options

sqrip offers several options:

a) Name and description of payment method
 Name the payment method ‘Bank Transfer’
or ‘Deposit’ or whatever you want.

b) b) Payee
 The payee is automatically taken from the sqrip account or the WooCommerce
settings. A manual adjustment is possible.

c) (QR-)IBAN
 The bank account to which the invoice amount should be transferred.
If this account number is changed intentionally or unintentionally, the owner of
the sqrip account will be informed of this change by e-mail. He can actively confirm
the change or passively allow it.

d) (QR) reference number
 The reference number is either created randomly or calculated
on the basis of the order number. Inital 6 digits can be defined for easier identification.
It automatically adapts to the IBAN format used.

e) additional information
 On up to five lines or 140 characters additional information
can be added to the QR invoice. This includes – the due date (The time given to
the payer to settle the invoice may be communicated as text on the payment part.).–
the order number (Be aware: sqrip not use the order# of the plugin “WoCommerce Sequential
Order Numbers”) – any additional text (e.g. URL of webshop, thank you message) This
field supports WPML.

f) Integration
 Define the e-mail to which the qr-invoice will be attached to. It
can also be offered for download on the confirmation page. If you generally need
to adjust pricing or quantity after an order has been placed, you can suppress a
QR invoice generation at the checkout and generate it manually later; Merge the
QR bill slip with the invoice created with the Plugin ‘PDF Invoices & Packing Slips
for WooCommerce’ into one single PDF file; Use sqrip in multiple stores installed
on the same server instance.

g) E-mail enclosure
 The QR invoice can be enclosed with the e-mail in two ways:–
page A4 (blank) with payment section at the bottom; – only the payment section (
formerly “payment slip”) in A6 format; – add the QR invoice to multiple e-mails;

h) Language
 – The language to be used on the QR invoice (de, fr, it, en) is set
per store.

i) Test e-mail
 With one click, you can test the settings and see how the QR invoice
is received by your customers.

j) Add sqrip payment method manually
 – Suppress the creation of the QR invoice
at checkout and define the status of the order. – Add sqrip as payment method for
manually created orders.

k) Use sqrip QR-Codes for Refunds
 Scan the QR-Code with your Banking App to initiate
refunds. Remember: IBAN of client required!

l) Manual payment comparison
 Once an order has a defined order status you can confirm
that the payment was done by the client and the status of the order can be changed
to another status. If there is no suitable status available, you can create one
in seconds. You can confirm the payments either on the list of orders or on the
order detail page.

m) Payer Name
 – For corporate payers, choose to show either the Company name or
the Firstname / Name. Or show all names together. – sqrip is ready for ‘structured
addresses’ for QR invoices.

n) File Name
 The QR invoice file names can be defined individually. Add date, order
number and any other information as shop name to make the QR invoice more personal.

o) Delete unneeded QR invoice automatically
 Keeps the size of the media library
small. sqrip deletes all QR invoice files if – certain status of the order are met(
e.g. Cancelled); – x days after the creation have passed.

p) Adjustable to your process
 sqrip is flexible enough to be adopted to your individual
process. – Define your own order status for payments made with sqrip; – Define the
moment you expect the payment to arrive (prior to shipment or thereafter); – Define
the status after payment has arrived; – Use multiple payment installments (e.g.
Pay 30% when the order is placed; Pay the remaining 70% 30 days after delivery);

q) Shows when something is wrong, turns off automatically
 Instead of showing technical,
unuseful error messages to your clients, we turn the service off automatically and
show you where to look at for resolving the issue.

#### Requirements

 1. Besides a current WordPress and WooCommerce installation, an account on sqrip.ch
    is required.
 2. You need a (QR-)IBAN of a Swiss/Liechtenstein bank.
 3. Customers must be able to transfer payments using this method.
 4. Invoice amounts must be in CHF or EUR.

#### Privacy

 * The data transmitted to sqrip for the purpose of creating the QR invoice (e.g.
   payer, amount) will be deleted within a defined period.
 * On https://api.sqrip.ch each production/delivery is recorded in a logbook with
   date/time, origin (e.g. WooCommerce), API key called and product delivered.

## FAQ

### What do I need to start?

 * A sqrip account (http://api.sqrip.ch/login);
 * An API key that can be created in the account;
 * A (QR) IBAN.

### How much will a QR invoice cost me?

We charge according to actually used QR invoices. One QR invoice costs 1 credit.
Credits can be purchased in packages of 100 pcs. (for CHF 20) to 20’000 pcs. (for
CHF 1’000) – each plus VAT. The lowest price for a QR-bill is therefore 5 centimes(
CHF 0.05).

### Can I try the solution for free?

Yes. Registration (http://api.sqrip.ch/login) is free of charge. No credit card
details are required. There are 20 credits to try it out. With this you can test
all functions (test e-mail!). Afterwards you can buy packages with credits. If you
do not like the service, you can simply delete the account again.

### Will the service be developed further?

Yes. We are already working on comparing the reconciliation of orders/purchases
with the payments received on the bank account, thus automatically tracking the
status of an order. Our goal remains: To offer a cheap, simple, full-value and reliable
payment method. We are happy to receive your ideas for this.

### What are the best reasons to use sqrip with our store?

 * sqrip is set up in 5 minutes – IT knowledge is not necessary.
 * sqrip detects when uninvited guests change the payee IBAN in their favor.
 * sqrip was developed by store operators – we know the needs of our customers.
 * We do not want to stand still ourselves. That’s why we continue to develop sqrip.
   The roadmap stands.
 * Only free is even cheaper. A QR bill is available from 5 centimes. For transactions
   with credit card or Twint, only the fixed amounts are higher.

Very reactive support, I suggested 2 implementations and normally they're coming
with version 1.9 (hopefully soon). The plugin does it work very naturally, good
work

It was very easy to install this plugin in our existing WooCommerce shop and it
does exactly what we need it to do. The support is outstanding (we had one little
question and received very helpful feedback just an hour later). We really like
the very affordable pay as you go credit system and did not find that with any other
plugin. For us this is the perfect solution. A big thanks to the developers!

Integrating the plugin into my existing woocommerce shop was really easy and everything
works fine. Now my customers can either scan the QR Code directly on the website
after ordering or use the PDF they get via e-mail.

## Changelog

#### 1.10.5 : August 2026 – Fix

 * Order notes now say why a QR invoice could not be created. Until now the note
   read “Renew QR Invoice error: Server Error”, which looks like a breakdown at
   sqrip. In nearly every case it means the opposite: the invoice data was refused—
   a wrong IBAN, a reference the chosen format does not allow, or an address field
   that is empty, too long or contains characters a QR bill does not permit. The
   note now says that in plain words, names the field the service objected to, and
   keeps the original wording as a technical aside;
 * One order with unusable data can no longer switch sqrip off for your whole shop.
   If you use the option ‘Turn sqrip services off automatically if an error occurs’,
   it now takes effect only when the sqrip service itself is unreachable — not when
   a single order is refused because of its own data. Previously such an order could
   disable the payment method, and you had to notice and switch it back on by hand;
 * Internal function names that carried another plugin’s prefix, or a word as common
   as “endsWith”, now use sqrip’s own prefix. This closes a rare but total failure:
   if a snippet or another plugin happened to use the same name, WordPress stopped
   with a fatal error and the entire site went down — not just sqrip. How the plugin
   works is unchanged.
 * One exception worth knowing, and it affects almost nobody: if you removed the
   QR payment part from the PDF invoice with your own code — a remove_action on ‘
   wpo_wcpdf_tax_exempt’ — that line no longer matches and the payment part comes
   back. Point it at ‘sqrip_append_qr_to_pdf_invoice’ instead. The setting ‘Combine
   QR-Slip with Invoice into one document’ is not affected and remains the normal
   way to switch this off.
 * None of your settings are changed by this update.

#### 1.10.4 : August 2026 – Feature

 * New setting ‘Restrict QR-invoice by country’: sqrip is then offered only for
   the invoice countries you select (Switzerland and Liechtenstein by default).
   A QR-invoice is always in Swiss francs, so for customers abroad it causes confusion,
   bank charges for paying in the wrong currency, and manual work on your side;
 * The restriction is switched **off** on update. Nothing changes for your shop
   until you switch it on yourself;
 * If a customer nevertheless reaches the payment step with an invoice address outside
   your list — for instance by changing the country late in the checkout — the order
   is not placed silently. The customer is told that the QR-invoice is unavailable
   for their address and can pick another payment method. The order is also never
   left without a way to pay;
 * The same rule applies to orders you create by hand in the backend: no QR-invoice
   is generated, and the reason is recorded in the order notes;
 * An empty country list switches the restriction off instead of blocking every
   order.
 * Corrected the description of the language setting. It said the QR invoice could
   be produced in the language your customer selected on a multilingual site — the
   plugin cannot do that. The language is taken from the shop setting for every
   QR invoice. Following the customer’s language is planned for a future release;

#### 1.10.3 : Juli 2026 – Fixes

 * Orders you enter by hand in the backend now get the QR slip inside the PDF invoice
   as well, if you use the ‘PDF Invoices & Packing Slips’ integration. Until now
   only orders placed through the shop did, so the same order taken by phone or
   e-mail produced an invoice without the QR slip;
 * The payee address now shows the building number when the address is taken from
   your sqrip account. The number is stored in your account and delivered by the
   sqrip API, but the plugin left it out of the QR bill — so the payee address was
   printed incomplete, which the structured addresses require it not to be. The
   other two address sources, and the payer address, were never affected;

#### 1.10.2 : Juli 2026 – Fix

 * Opening the sqrip settings no longer ticks ‘Payment Comparison’ by itself. On
   shops with the feature switched off the checkbox appeared ticked as soon as the
   settings screen was opened, so saving switched the feature on. It affects 1.10
   and 1.10.1; if you do not use the payment comparison, check the setting once
   on the Services tab after updating;
 * Switching ‘Payment Comparison’ off no longer switches ‘Multiple QR-Slips’ on,
   and the other way round. The two still cannot run at the same time — switching
   one on turns the other off — but you can now leave both off, which was impossible
   before. Toggling the Refunds checkbox no longer affected the two either;
 * Clarification on the automatic clean-up: the retention period under ‘Delete QR
   invoices after … days’ applies to your existing QR invoices as well, not only
   to newly created ones. Invoices of orders still waiting for payment are always
   kept, and order data, amounts and references are never affected;

#### 1.10.1 : Juli 2026 – Fixes

 * New button in the settings: delete all QR-invoice PDFs created up to today right
   away, instead of waiting for the daily clean-up. Invoices of orders that are
   still waiting for payment are always kept;
 * The clean-up now also removes files that were previously left behind: refund
   QR codes, the PNG for the PDF-invoice integration, the individual slips of a
   multi-invoice order, and leftovers from earlier regenerations;
 * The refund QR code is shown immediately instead of being hidden behind a link;
 * Order confirmation page: the QR-invoice download is no longer offered when the
   invoice has already been deleted (the button used to lead nowhere) or when the
   order is cancelled, refunded or already paid;
 * New setting ‘Logo height at the checkout’: the sqrip logo next to the payment
   method now has a defined size (24 pixels by default, 0 hides it). Previously
   the size was left entirely to the theme, so the square logo appeared oversized
   in some shops and barely visible in others;
 * New setting ‘Form of address in the shop front end’: the texts your customers
   see — on the order confirmation page and the message shown when a QR invoice
   cannot be created — can now use the informal form (currently for German shops);
 * The error your customers see when a QR invoice cannot be created is now translated
   instead of appearing in English;
 * Manual invoices in the media library are no longer at risk: the clean-up job
   only ever deletes PDFs that sqrip created itself (it could previously delete
   unrelated PDFs whose name contained a certain number);
 * Refunds no longer report success when no refund QR code could be created;
 * Failed QR-invoice downloads are reported instead of producing an empty PDF, and
   can no longer interrupt the checkout;
 * Revisiting the order-received page no longer resets the order status or re-sends
   the payment e-mail;
 * ‘Confirm receipt of payment’ now only appears for orders that are actually waiting
   for payment, and can no longer be triggered twice for the same instalment;
 * The payment deadline printed on the QR bill is always correct, also when the
   due-date setting has never been saved;
 * Fixed several errors that could interrupt the checkout on PHP 8, and warnings
   that could break the order process on servers with error display enabled;
 * Block-based checkout: sqrip now applies the same availability rules as the classic
   checkout, so the payment method can no longer be offered in situations where
   the order cannot be completed with it;
 * Security and robustness: the refund API key is no longer readable by users who
   cannot manage the shop, admin screens escape stored data, and the weekly version
   check no longer interrupts other scheduled jobs;
 * Manually created orders: the ‘Generate QR Invoice’ button works again on shops
   that still use the classic order storage. The button was bound to the order form
   of the new High-Performance Order Storage only, so on those shops nothing happened
   at all — no QR invoice, no PDF and no error message;
 * The document icon in the sqrip order box is no longer shown before a QR invoice
   exists (it used to link back to the order instead of a PDF);
 * Test e-mail: if sending fails, the actual error reported by your e-mail service
   is now shown instead of a generic hint, the recipient address is named on success,
   and a failed PDF is reported separately;

#### 1.10 : Juli 2026

**Features**
 * ‘structured addresses’ are confirmed; * Use sqrip in multiple stores
installed on the same server instance; * Combine the invoice and the QR slip into
one single PDF (with the ‘PDF Invoices & Packing Slips for WooCommerce’ plugin);*
The QR bill can be added to multiple e-mail templates; * Split your invoices into
multiple installments (BETA); * Add remarks on the checkout page; * The refund IBAN
of the client is checked before a refund is initiated; * Optionally send the order-
confirmation e-mails (to the customer and the shop admin) even when your chosen
sqrip order status does not itself trigger WooCommerce e-mails (opt-in, off by default);*
See the services activated per API key in the web admin panel; * Refinements: reference
number layout, sqrip logo on the payment options, WPML handles the description field.

**Improvements & fixes**
 * Performance: the plugin no longer makes a blocking API
call on every page load – front-end pages load noticeably faster; * Full German,
French and Italian translations are bundled and load reliably, regardless of the
shop’s admin profile language variant or an outdated wordpress.org language pack;*
Full compatibility with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS): refunds,
order-screen actions and bulk status changes; * Security: hardened the admin AJAX
actions and the payment-confirmation flow; * Every processing step (QR creation,
e-mails, deletion, refunds) is recorded in the order notes; * Confirmation page:
the QR-invoice download button is no longer shown twice; * Fixed the multiselect
fields on the settings screen and removed the last bundled third-party asset (now
uses WooCommerce’s own select2); * Requires PHP 7.4; tested with WordPress 7.0.

#### 1.8.4 : May 2024 – Compatibility

 * Added ‘Auto Turn-off’ functionality: Should any parameter be wrong (e.g. no credits
   left, API key inactive, unknown errors), sqrip will turn itself off in order
   to prevent any errors visible for the shop clients;
 * Define an individual status for orders made with the sqrip payment method;
 * The status can be changed for multiple orders now, incl. to the status defined
   by the merchant;

#### 1.7.2 : May 2023 – Service Update

 * Link to updated QR invoice corrected;
 * Individual file naming corrected;
 * Potential error in attribution of QR invoices to e-mails corrected;
 * Empty “additional information” field does no longer trigger an error;
 * In case of a refund to a shop client: hint to unknown IBAN is shown;
 * Minor Bug fixes.

#### 1.7 : April 2023

 * To save space in your media library on your server the QR Invoices (PDF) are
   automatically deleted, if certain status of the order are met (e.g. Cancelled)
   or x days after the creation have passed;
 * Inital 6 digits for Reference Numbers are now available in combination with regular
   IBAN. Letters are possible (e.g. “RF39 SQRI PX11 1115 2023 0331 0”);
 * The reference numbers are now shown in groups;
 * Define a suitable order status when waiting for payments or when no QR invoice
   has been created;
 * Show message when the (QR-)IBAN in the plugin is different from the one on api.
   sqrip.ch;
 * Bug fixing.

We made users (even more) happy with these changes:
 * Give individual names to
your QR invoice files. Add your shop name, the order number and the order date (
e.g. QRRechnung_babytuch_20230331_Bestellung_2503.pdf). * For corporate payers with
a contact person both names can be added to the QR invoice. Optional only one of
them is shown; * Manually created orders do not need the e-mail of the client anymore.

#### 1.6 : March 2023

 * Validation of API keys shows API key name for better identification;
 * A hint placed right of the button for sending test e-mails tells you if a bought
   credit is used for it;
 * Test e-mails include initial numbers of QR-Reference;

We made users (even more) happy with these changes:
 * Plugin is no longer loaded
on every page; * Supressing generation of QR-reference at checkout; * Manually added
orders requires less data, shows specific error message when mandatory fields are
void; * Select the order status for unpaid and paid orders. Should there be no suitable
status for paid orders (e.g. “paid, processing”), add one quickly; * Easier manual
payment comparison on list of orders page and on order detail page. With just one
click the status is updated; * allowing allow_url_open in the PHP settings to prevent
issues with downloading and local storing of PDF.
