As of January 2018, with WordPress 4.9.1, this still works; it's uncomplicated and does a basic job, so it's not a surprise that it does. That's the rule of thumb: the simpler, more basic, more uncomplicated...the less code a plugin affects, the more likely it will still work even if it hasn't been certified as usable with you version of WordPress -- even if the, 'this plugin is untested' message comes up. And THANK GOD it does; my site template doesn't have the basic favicon feature enabled in the area it is 'supposed' to -- under site > customize > header > site identity....as I was told later versions of WordPress now have, by default. My template didn't account for that though, and I'm not going to be changing my template anytime soon. Perhaps never. 😀 So, imo, nobody should have any serious concerns about this plugin. And if they do, they can go insert the same basic, tiny code into their site -- via the 'wp_header' action hook. But this is far better. 😀 This little plugin is a SANITY SAVER. Honest. Download this little beauty, and save yourself the trouble of sifting through code and praying you don't break your site with any rewrites. A wonderful, simple, essential plugin.
